Description

Waterfalls should preferably be visited in winter or spring, between November and April where the flow of water is at its best.

You will be surprised by the number of waterfalls in Lebanon, which are spread all over the country. Most of the ones mentioned in this article are easy to access and some are spectacular, and particularly suitable for long exposure photography.

Here is a list of the best waterfalls in Lebanon:

1- Afqa

Get directions on Google Maps

In my opinion, it is one of the most impressive waterfalls in Lebanon. A huge amount of water comes out of the mountain and travels down majestically, passing under the stone bridge and forming a small pond before it continues its way into the valley. You can enter the cave but it is recommended to be escorted by professional assistance.

Jezzine is known as the ‘City of Waterfalls,’ the most impressive of which goes down around 74 m, known as the ‘ElChir” (the cliff), overlooking the pine trees forest of Bkassin.

3- Bsetin El Osseh

Get directions on Google Maps

Bstein El Osseh is a three layers, breathtaking waterfall. Located in the area of Batroun, the place can be reached on the way up to Tannourine. You can park your car 50 meters before you arrive to the restaurant and take a small trail on the right. You need to walk around 15 min to get to its base; then you can wander between the different levels surrounded by gorgeous scenery. Make sure to take plenty of photos. On the trail, you will see water flowing from almost every cliff.

4- Baaklyne and Moukhtara

it is not one but a river with multiple waterfalls. You can walk up the river to see them. Take your swimming suit with you because you will not be able to resist the temptation of swimming in one of the several natural pools.

5- Kadisha Valley

Also known as Wadi Kadisha, the Valley of the Saints or the Holy Valley, Kadisha Valley was carved out by the Kadisha River. The gorge lies below the town of Bcharre, running between the districts of Bcharre and Zgharta in the North Governate of Lebanon. In addition to the beautiful old monasteries and churches which you can visit and stay for the night, there are a lot of natural caves that early Christians used as shelters. On the  UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites, Kadisha valley offers a tranquil hiking route and many waterfalls to see along the way.

6- Hammana

Just above the beautiful town of Hammana, you can see two enchanting waterfalls. You park your car near the abandoned hotels and walk for around 15 to 20 min.

Do also take some time to visit Hammana and the surrounding area.

You should plan to spend your whole day at Ouyoun El Samak so you can enjoy the area around the lake, including hiking. Make sure you go on the wooden bridge over the water for a great view. This area is particularly special, as not only it is beautiful, but also not very well known.

8- Bkarzala

When I first came to visit the waterfalls in Bkarzala,  all I had was a picture and the region where they might be located. There was no name, no idea of the exact place … nothing, but I took the car and started my search. They say that in Lebanon when you ask for directions, you will always find your way, and I did.

This splendid waterfall is located near a restaurant in the village of Bkarzala, a place I could never imagine could hide such beauty. You can enjoy some traditional Lebanese food while sitting on the edge overlooking the water.

9- Yammouneh

Get directions on Google Maps

April to May is the best period to visit Yammouneh. On your way there, the road offers you a nice view of the town and the lake. When you arrive, sit on one of the rocks, and enjoy the site and the sound of the water going out of the mountain.

10- Baloue Balaa

A nature’s wonder. It is a hidden gem in the area of Tannourine near Balaa. The waterfall drops 255 meters into the Baatara Pothole, a cave of Jurassic limestone. It is also known as the “Baatara Gorge Waterfall” or the “Three Bridges Chasm”.

The melting snow creates the waterfall that goes down the gorge hiding from the sparkling sun. Do your best to visit the place not later than June.

11- Nahr Ibrahim

The Valley is a true paradise for waterfalls’ chasers. you can literately see water, from almost everywhere, coming out of the rocks down the steep cliff and joining the river. it’s a place I love a lot and has a special place in my heart.

(Wikiloc App – Account: tonyaoun – Track 08: Janne – Chouane)

Water is life, and I have that thing to waterfalls. Each year, between March and June, I become a “Waterfall Chaser”, visiting the four corners of Lebanon, hoping to have that beautiful next shot.
